Children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have difficulty managing stress and anxiety during times of change or uncertainty. This emotional dysregulation is a characteristic of ASD and can often result in challenging behavior. Challenging behaviors may occur if the student does not have the ability to seek or accept help when stressed, calm down and find alternative activity before outburst occurs and/or recover after an outburst.

Join Dr. Bonnie McBride and Marisa Singletary as they walk you through recognizing the signs of stress or anxiety and provide you with strategies for supporting students with ASD address their own responses to stress.

Learning Objectives:

1.       Identify potential signs of stress and anxiety in children with ASD

2.       Identify strategies and supports to reduce stress and anxiety
